Loving Spirit of Life,

The universe is a magical mystery of joyous love and hard going struggles.  The lives we live are filled with days of endless excitement and overwhelming fear.  Life is the mystery whose purpose we may never understand other than to maximize our capacity for love.

May I open my heart to lessons of patience.
May I strengthen my ability to be present in the moment.
May I grow in my ability to be compassionate.
May I remember the beautiful power of humility.

Job

"Then he fell to the ground in worship and said: 'Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will depart.  The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised.'"

---

When Job's life fell apart, and God was silent, Job still found things he could praise God for:
  • That he is good and loving.
  • That he is all - powerful.
  • That he notices every detail of my life.
  • That he is in control.
  • That he has a plan for my life.
  • That he will save me.

Russian birthday song

The pedestrians run down the street absent mindedly as the rainwater flows down the street like a river
I'm sitting on my stoop playing my accordion in everyone's view
No one knows why I am so happy
It's unfortunate that birthday only comes once a year.

A wizard will come to me in a heliocpter
And take me for a helicopter ride.
And of course show me a movie,
And as a present, leave me 500 eskimos.

It's too bad birthdays only come once a year.

The artist Myron Kreuger coined the phrase "Response is the medium!"  He was primarily interested in how his work responded to people.  He focused on the aesthetics of response, rather than the aesthetics of the image or motion.  Kruger pointed out a number of ways people can relate to a responsive system such as a work of software.  An individual can have a dialog with the system or can be a protagonist in an open-ended narrative or a participant in a game.  The system can be an amplifier, a space to explore, or an instrument.

the slower an agency operates -- that is, the longer the interval between each change of state -- the more external signals can arrive inside those intervals.  Does this mean that the outside world appear to move faster to a slow agency than to a faster agency?  Does life seem swift to tortoises, but tedious to hummingbirds?  - minsky
